Adults in Scouting comprise individuals from a variety of backgrounds. They have different experience to draw from as well as varying knowledge, skills and attitudes. This diversity gives rise to the possibility of a rich learning environment for our Scouts and can lead to well considered decisions in how we manage ourselves.

Such diversity can also lead to tension between individuals. This is often healthy and, if properly resolved, can give rise to increased understanding and better outcomes. When tension between individuals is not resolved this can lead to conflict.

The Conflict Resolution Policy and Guidelines (SID-CCD02)

  • Declares the importance of encouraging and promoting effective working
  • Recognises that, from time to time, the relationships between some of its members/Professional Staff may become strained and lead to a situation where some intervention is required to resolve any conflicts, disputes or differences and restore confidence.
  • States the importance of resolving any such conflicts, disputes or differences, which may arise from time to time, as soon as possible and at their source.
  • Commits to support the resolution of such conflicts, disputes or differences by using whatever resources are available to it including personnel who can offer assistance and support.
  • Establishes specific guidelines to assist all parties involved in a conflict situation to arrive at an amicable solution.
